Aldi Snackrite Crisps Review

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Aldi and their great value prices. I tried some of their Jaffa cake biscuits at a friends house and was won over by their great taste. I took a trip to Aldi and came home laden with fresh fruit, vegetables, ham, chorizo, American marshmallows, frozen goods and much more for the bargain price of under £20. One of the snacks I picked up was this 18 pack of Snackrite crisps in kid friendly varieties of Cheese Grids, Bacon Rashers and Monster Claws for only £1.49. These are half the price of the branded or other supermarket varieties seeing as a 6 pack of crisps usually costs about £1. Now we all know which crisps these are 'copying' but how do they compare in taste?

I don't buy Walker's Frazzles anymore, even though my kids love them as they contain MSG and lactose. It's shocking to me that Walkers often have 'No MSG' written on their adult crisps, such as Sensations, but continue to use it in the popular children's varieties. Luckily supermarket own brands such as these from Aldi do not have any of these nasty ingredients. Indeed these Bacon Rashers are suitable for vegetarians and vegans! The Bacon flavouring is delicious and just as strong as in the branded crisps. There are only 86 calories in each 18g bag, so you might find yourself having more than one pack at a time!

The Monster Claws have the strongest taste of the three, if you like your Pickled Onion crisps super vinegary and full of flavour then you will love these. They have the same shape that you would expect for this type of crisp.

The only negative point is that there were not many 'claws' in a pack, although each claw is quite big in size. Again they are only 87 calories per bag and the ingredients are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

The Cheese Grids have a fun shape and an even nicer taste than the usual cheesy puff type crisps. The cheesy flavour is not too overpowering or stinky. These are full of flavour and extremely moreish. There are 89 calories in a pack and they do contain milk and cheese powder.

I am usually a bit reluctant to buy such large multipacks of crisps as that can mean some packs go to waste (we don't eat crisps every day and the kids get bored if they have the same flavour too often), but that certainly wouldn't happen with this pack. In fact they seem to be disappearing at an alarmingly fast rate!

Note: I updated the first photo of this review to reflect the latest version of this crisps which contain Cheese Puffs rather than Cheese Grids.

  1. These are such lovely pictures! I go to my local Aldi all the time to buy my food and toilet paper. It is a nice place to shop but you must remember to take your own bags.

    2. Funny, have you thought of doing stand up? You'd be great!

Actually their Bacon Rashers have a lot more flavour than Frazzles thesedays, just wish they did them in adult sized bags too! (Not 150g before anyone pipes up, I'm not a fat Jeremy Kyle watcher).

    4. Ive just tried the bacon rashers thinking they'd be like Frazzles. They are rank. Don't taste of bacon and leave a foul taste in the mouth.

  4. I well rate them but of late have to say the standard of the crisps is less than poor.. Hard stale like crisps :( Noticed first on Monster claws which happened a few times & more recent on 18 pack ..

Quality Control needs a kick up..

    1. Sorry for my super late reply to this but thank you for your comment. I noticed stale crisps in a multipack I bought recently too. Also some of the packs had been caught and sealed into the actual sides of the outer bag. Very odd :(

  6. I could deal with the odd bag being sealed to the side of the multipack, but then I got a multipack of cheese curls (quaver type ones). I took a bag out of the multipack and it looked like a normal sealed bag. As I squeezed it you can feel that there is NOTHING inside lol. Taking the piss imo. I still have the sealed bag full of air. Considering sending it back to them. I know they are cheap and the quality can't be expected to be as good as walkers. But please come on, thats a joke !!

    1. 3p for a 'bag a bag'? Waaaa! Need to remortgage the house.

If you're that bothered just get a box from one of their fruit and veg products and use that. Plus you get a free cardboard box! Bonus!

    2. I've just about managed to translate that. So many errors in such a small outburst. I think what was meant was:

"Go to Tesco; they don't charge you for a bag. In Aldi it costs 3p. What a rip off!"

  8. Had my first ever bag of Monster Claws last night. When I woke this morning my left foot was covered in blue fur and my right testice has swollen to the size of a basketball , has any else experienced similar issues ?

  9. sorry testice = testicle. Typos are another symptom (other posts seem to support this)

  13. I have a friend who buys your cheese griddy product and adores them greatly and constantly talks about them to us to buy your cheese grid product, however due to her constant bragging about eating your product im afraid i will not be a buyer of your cheese grids as she knows they have a strong pungent smell none of us are fond of, thank you college friend for ruining this crisp snack for us all!

  15. I am very disappointed with your company, I made my sons pack lunch for school today and he came home so upset because he could not eat his crisps because they were ready salted in a smokey bacon packet but I have kept them! I am making a complaint to snack rite and Aldi.

  16. I found a soggy pack of crisps and I demand snackrite to check all of their crisps before sending them to Aldi

  17. I purchased the ready salted crisps today they were so salty I couldn't eat them they were terrible. No more snackrite crisps for me .

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't know what you are all on about any of the snackrite crisps I have ever had from Aldi haven't been 10x better than walkers and any other leading brand

    ReplyDelete
  19. Snackrite crisps are ok but i get bad constipation after eating them yet i dont if i eat any other brand..had anyone else haf yhis..

  20. I have to agree Snackrites may be tastey but the packing is below standard. The packets are sometimes open in the multi packs, there are bits of burnt potatoes in some of the packs, loose crisp in the multi pack bag which hold the 6 packets of crisp, poor seems. My daughter opened a packet which had 5 crisp in the bag despite the packet said 25g. Children should be supervised when opening a packet of Snackrites because you cannot be sure what you will find inside. Aldi should terminate business with Snackrites until Snackrites identify the reason for such poor standards, identify the problem, correct it, raise their standards and start following good food practice and procedures. Unfortunately I will not be buying anymore Snackrite

  21. I have not had any problems with any of Snackrite's crisps and other snacks. They are delish. I love them, even my dog loves them :)

  22. Nothing wrong with Snackrite crisps,at £2.49 for 30 bags even if I have to throw a couple away due to damage in transit its still a bargain

    ReplyDelete
  23. we buy snackrite 6 pack of ready salted crisps every week some of the crisps are soft (packaging poor) We have also had 3 packs of the 6 pack that where very very salty but we love these crisp the flavour is the best just need to step up quality control for packaging

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ready salted needs more flavour along with chicken. But prawn cocktail and smokey bacon is A okay. Beef and onion generally needs more work!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Cheese and onion also lacks flavour

    ReplyDelete
  26. The crisps are rlly good but pls add less seasoning to your cheese and onion crisps and prawn cocktail crisps 😁
